The
Drug Education Agency (DEA) focuses on educating children, teenagers, parents
and the work place on the dangers of taking drugs and the abuse of alcohol. The
DEA is currently involved with 35 schools and work with large organizations such
as Eskom and Woolworth's to name but a few. In 2008 and have serviced 60 schools
in the Western Cape since the organization was established.
We
reach approximately 80 000 people.
The
DEA runs a parent support group every second Monday helping parents to deal with
loved ones when they return from treatment.
To date, we have conducted
in excess of 80 seminars, which have empowered more than 3 000 adults
with the necessary knowledge and skills to deal with drug and alcohol related
issues, such as detection, counselling, education, addiction and rehabilitation.
- We have referred over 400 young people to treatment centres
all over South Africa.
- We have established both addict and parent
support groups within the Cape Town area, 60 parents attend our primary support
group.
- We have established four Community Networks in Cape
Town, where members of the community can receive assistance and advice on drug
and alcohol related issues.
- We employ the services of a number of
recovered addicts, whose testimonies and personal experience prove invaluable
to warning children against drugs and alcohol.
