NEWS / EVENTS - LIFE CONFERENCE
"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favour." Luke 4:18 and 19.

The church exists for the benefit of the community and we are the hope to the nation. We have the power to bring change through God who pours Himself into us. We carry the heartbeat of God and we have the nature of God inside of us to bring hope to any situation.

We must do this by not just having more Sunday church but by being the church 24/7. It is not just about what happens on a Sunday or at a church conference, but what we do in our community every day.

The theme for this year's Life Conference was a "life of Influence"; a conference that is a heart felt experience to what Life Church is all about. Life Church hosted their 4th annual Conference over the weekend of the 19th to the 21st of September 2008 focusing on justice and righteousness. There was a twist in this year's conference - it was not a conference just about hearing and being empowered by great speakers, but about doing and being the hands and feet of Jesus. It was not a conference about what you can get out of it, but what you can give back to people in need.

Life Church opened their doors to the whole community to be part of their weekend of influence. Entrance was free to make sure everyone was able to attend. On the Friday evening, Pastor Neville Goldman spoke a powerful message on sonship. "Ministry without sonship, won't reach the world. True sons carry and build the Father's House".

On the Saturday, the delegates were divided in groups to partner with existing projects to reach out to the community and live lives of influence. Seed projectThe teams went to Worcester Kibbutz, Sea Point Polices station, Ellerton Primary School and Sibongile Day and Night Care Centre kah. At the end of the day after hard work and fun, they accomplished the following:

- At Worcester Kibbutz they did a children programme with a group of children in the community and maintenance work and gardening at the centre.
- At Sea Point Police Station they did gardening and treated the staff of the police station with boerewors rolls and juice.
- At Sibongile they planted a vegetable garden, trees, painted the containers where s and spoiled the staff of Sibongile.
- At Ellerton Primary School they painted a class room, staff restroom, computer room and foyer and cleaned the school and did maintenance work.

On the Sunday, the church celebrated what they have accomplished over the weekend and the hope that they gave to the community. Life Church also honoured one of their missionaries, Annmaree Jorge, who was sent ny the church their church 10 years ago to plant a church in Quelimane, Mozambique. Today God has work through her to raise up a church of over a 1000 members and plant more churched in four different cities and towns in Mozambique.

The theme of the conference also tied in with Life church's Charitable Trust, Ubomi Turst, which was launched also on the weekend. The Trust is established to build the Kingdom of God by partnering with existing community projects to reach out to the community. By partnering with these projects, we will be able to link the local church with the people in need in the community and live out Life Church's slogan "God cares, We Care, People Matter".

James 1: 27: "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans (and vulnerable children) and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."
