The
model of the Ubomi Children's Support Centre (for orphan and vulnerable children)
is holistic, based on Christian values purposed to impact and improve the lives
of the children and families in the community. As an expression of the church,
Ubomi aims to instil a moral value base that lays a foundation for children to
become future leaders in the city, encouraging their God-given gifts and talents
through education, play, fun and support.
A Children's Support Centre with
the focus on educare for 240 of the most vulnerable children in the Samora Machel
and Kosovo community, incorporating the Jubilee Curriculum Educational Programme
which aims to prepare children not only for primary school but for life. They
are taught how to deal with situations they will encounter. According to a recent
research project on Philippi done by SAEP (www.saep.org.za),
children ages 0-5 constitute 13.29% of the Philippi population.
This percentage
translates into a total of 7000 children (total pop. 53 000) between ages 0-5
in Samora Machel and Kosovo communities of Philippi. In this area there are currently
969 0-5 year olds in registered crèches and between 800-1100 in unregistered
crèches, indicating a great number of 0-5 year olds are not attending creche.
We
are in the process of securing land and actively involved in the community. If
you would like more information about this project or to join us on an outreach
to the community, please contact Niki at the Ubomi Office.
