is Friday, but Sunday is coming... "It's Friday, but Sunday's Comin'.
But what happens when it's Sunday and we're still facing death and despair?"
- James Watkins
It is Sunday in the world where every six seconds a child
dies because of hunger and related causes. It is Sunday in Africa where over 5
million abortions will take place every year. It is Sunday in Africa where half
of the population live on less that $1 a day. It is Sunday in Africa where a 13
year old girl is sold into sex slavery for a little as R380. It is Sunday in Sub-Saharan
Africa where HIV has orphaned nearly 12 million children under the age of 18.
It is Sunday in Sub-Saharan Africa where 30% of Children die or are disabled due
to acute respiratory infections.

It
is Sunday in South Africa where 29% of pregnant women are HIV positive. It may
be Easter Sunday, but throughout the world, people are still dealing with the
effects of poverty, drugs, HIV, abortion, crime and violence, life-threatening
diseases, unemployment, depression and grief from the loss of a loved one. But
you have the power to change someone's Sunday with the great news... Jesus is
coming.

Platteklip
Charity Challenge The Platteklip Charity Challenge is a fundraiser that
will take place on the 17th of April. Roughly 100 intrepid Capetonians will attempt
to see how many times they can summit Table Mountain from sunrise to sunset. Each
lap is 5.5km long with 760 metres of climbing and will take approximately 2 hours.
Once at the top, the contestants need to run to the upper cable station, catch
a lift down and then run back to the start.
Last year they managed to raise
R551 200.00 for Masikulisane crèche in Samora Machelle informal settlement.
As of yet the bulk of the money has not been spent as there are big plans to build
a bigger Children's Centre with Educare focus across the road. The Ubomi Trust
would like to continue to expand their involvement in addressing the needs of
AIDS-affected, vulnerable and orphaned children in the Kosovo and Samora Machel
community by developing, managing and sustaining this new educare centre. There
are currently no interventions of this sort for the 'most vulnerable' children
of this area.
Please visit the Charity Challenge website www.charitychallenge.co.za
for more information or to sponsor the contestants. Please also come out to the
event and cheer the athletes on!

Help
Iron Man support Ubomi The day of reckoning edges ever closer for the 2010
Spec-Savers Ironman South Africa where a record field of over 1800 athletes will
descend upon Nelson Mandela Bay on the 25th of April. Among those will be Life
Church's Warren Wilkinson who will be doing more than a race - he will be raising
funds for Ubomi with every kilometre that he races.
The race consists
of a two loop swim at Hobie Beach - one of the many beautiful beaches in Nelson
Mandela Bay; a bike course made up of three 60km loops along the scenic coast
and a run (3 loops) that links up with the cycle route taking you through crowds
of cheering spectators.
If you would like to sponsor Warren, please email
Carita - carita@ubomi.com
- or call 021 439 4721. Please also keep him in your prayers on the day of the
event. |

Sibonigle's
New Home In January 2010, all the children at "Sibongile 1" (the
containers) were moved into a new home. Nomasango, the founder of Sibongile, received
a new house from Home from Home that is much bigger than the containers and more
child friendly for the children.
Nomasango and the team are so grateful
to Home from Home who already sponsored one of their houses (Sibonigle two) and
now they have another beautiful home for the children.
"God really
blessed us through them and we expect even more growth for this coming year.
We
are so grateful to serve such a good and faithful God who truly takes care of
the fatherless." The container will be used as a day care center for children
in the community.
At the moment they are in need of more furniture, toys,
carpets, etc. If you would like to make a donation, please contact the Sibongile
team at info@sibongile.org |

Active
season at Restoring Wholeness Ministry founder Ps Wynn Cameron Thompson
and his wife Judi visited from the USA. They had a month packed with preaching
and planning meetings that have all gone very well. The Thompsons met with the
management team and board for planning and spoke at various churches and events
throughout their stay. Restoring Wholeness (RW) also hosted two conferences in
the last two months that have been fully booked with great responses from each.
For some time, Johan Obbes has felt a strong desire to move forward into
a full-time counseling career, so after some discussion with Ps Thompson it is
with great sadness that he will be leaving the helm of RW. Johan has served faithfully
for the last two years and we would like to thank him for what he has done to
take the ministry forward. Ps Thompson will be continuing as global oversight
of the ministry working closely with the local management team in Cape Town.

Update
on Land Application in Kosovo For the past 4 years Ubomi and the Aids
Resource Centre have been pursuing the acquisition of a 2500m2 piece of land in
Kosovo to build a Children's Support Centre with the focus on educare for 240
children. It will be a place where the children in the community can come to for
safety and support and be educated in the ways of God.
Kosovo is a 'crisis'
shack community bordering on Samora Machel. It is estimated that there are 5-7
thousand children under five years old in Samora and Kosovo, of which 1700 are
in creches. With unemployment at 59% it means that a large percentage of pre-schoolers
are not attending a creche as parents cannot afford a R100 monthly fee. The planned
Ubomi Children's Support Centre would not charge a fee. In addition, it will offer
child counselling and safety homes, nutritional support, children's church, holiday
and weekend activities.
Please keep us in prayer at this time as we cannot
develop the Centre without the land. It is up to the City of Cape Town to release
it to us. |
