Time to "lengthen our cords and strengthen our stakes"
Every day we work with people who have lost hope. To ensure they do not become complacent when they look at their lives, the best encouragement we can provide is to help them prepare for that which God has purposed them - to lengthen their cords and to strengthen their stakes (Isaiah 54).

God sees the beginning and the end - He has life and growth in mind and we need to start seeing his vision for our lives and for others. To do this, we need to enlarge, stretch and lengthen ourselves - to never hold back. We need to start thinking bigger about God and what He wants to do in and through our lives!

Let March be a time of preparation for what God wants to do in us!

Blessings,
Carita

Ellerton Primary School Renovation
On Saturday the 6th of March, 120 volunteers from Life Church entered the gates of Ellerton Primary School with one goal: to improve the facilities and make sure that the next generation of our community is proud of their school.
Volunteers were divided into groups to either paint, clean, scrape or sand. The following was done:

  • Jungle gym fixed and improved
  • Front gates fixed and painted
  • Tuck shop, storage room, crèche, toilets and offices painted
  • The staff room received new appliances
  • Windows fixed
  • New benches built
  • Hop scotch lines etc repainted

Life Church will be returning to the school to install a security system, improve the lighting, repaint the corridors and help the school with any other maintenance that may need to be done.

Life Church would like to thank the following sponsors: Duraline, Group Five, Camps Bay Pre-Primary School, Eva-last and everyone at Life Church who volunteered or donated resources. This is just the beginning of a great relationship between Life Church and Ellerton Primary School!

Prison Ministry
Over the Fence Prison Ministry team, accompanied by Ps Anthony and Desiree, visited the juvenile girls at Pollsmoor Prison on the 20th February. Most of the girls attended and listened attentively to the powerful message Ps Antony delivered. He shared his testimony and made them realize how their current situation does not define their future.

They also spent time with the inmates in praise and worship. "We were so grateful to God that the message was well received and lives were changed. Many of the girls' hearts softened during our time with them and it is an honour and a privilege for us to be able to go and visit them."

Over the Fence are looking forward to an impactful 2010. They have a dynamic team, strong commitment and a keen desire to make a difference. "We thank Ubomi and Ps. Antony and Des for all their love and support and for kick-starting this awesome year for us."

Please contact Yvonne on 074 155 7474 should you wish to visit the prison with us, or to assist in any way- your contribution will be valued.

DEA Workshop at PEP-stores
February saw the Drug Education Agency being called in to provide substance abuse and awareness sessions at PEP Warehouse distribution centre. The sessions ran for 6 days and saw 2000 staff members attending workshops. We took the sessions in two directions: Parents and abusers.

In every session at least two parents would approach us regarding a child addicted to tik.

Drugs are rife in the airport area and most cannot afford treatment. Some of the stories were heart breaking - most offenders had ended up either in jail or some other institution, others had died. Overall the sessions were a success and I believe we had an impact on the employees.

The Drug Education Agency is available to do schools awareness and corporate training.

Quelimane Update
Gerda and Stephan van der Walt will be joining Ps Annmaree and her team this month to assist them with church activities, in particular the building of Okalawa orphan village. The great news is that electricity has been installed at the village and they will be able to move machinery in and start producing bricks.

Cathedral of Faith church in San Jose, launched the "Adopt a Child" program last month and the response has been phenomenal. The program was established to support the Children of the Peace School with basic medical care, education, food, clothing, transportation and most importantly, learning about Jesus every day at school. Please visit their website at www.cathedraloffaith.org for more information.
