Poverty never takes a holiday
"I know poverty because poverty was there before I was born and it has become part of life like the blood through my veins. Poverty is not going empty for a single day and getting something to eat the next day. Poverty is going empty with no hope for the future. Poverty is getting nobody to feel your pain and poverty is when your dreams go in vain because nobody is there to help you. Poverty is watching your mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters die in pain and in sorrow just because they couldn't get something to eat. Poverty is hearing your grandmothers and grandfathers cry out to death to come take them because they are tired of this world.

Poverty is hearing your grandmothers and grandfathers cry out to death to come take them because they are tired of this world. Poverty is watching your own children and grandchildren die in your arms but there is nothing you can do. Poverty is watching your children and grandchildren share tears in their deepest sleep. Poverty is suffering from HIV/AIDS and dying a shameful death but nobody seems to care.

Poverty is when you hide your face and wish nobody could see you just because you feel less than a human being. Poverty is when you dream of bread and fish you never see in the day light. Poverty is when people accuse you and prosecute you for no fault of yours but who is there to say some for you? I know poverty and I know poverty just like I know my father's name. Poverty never sleeps. Poverty works all day and night. Poverty never takes a holiday"

Stephan and Gerda - Missionaries
Stephan and Gerda van der Walt from Vredelest Church will be going to Quelimane in March next year to assist Pastors Annmaree and Oswaldo for six months in the establishment of the Okalawo Childrens Village. They visited Quelimane Life church in June 2009 and heard about the vision for Okalawo village. Ps Annmaree also shared with them the need for people with the necessary technical skills to partner with them to deliver this project.

God placed a passion for Africa in their hearts and they knew that they were called to serve in Quelimane. Stephan is a civil engineer and Gerda is already serving in the ministry at Vredelust Church. "We would really like to encourage people to use opportunities to go on short term missions trips. It gave us the opportunity to experience how rich and diverse the body of Christ really is.

It was also humbling to experience God's presence and joy and absolute contentment in people lives. We came back with so much more than we could ever have imagined and we are looking forward to meeting up with our new family in Quilemane early next year!"

Over the Fence Prison Ministry
Over the Fence Prison Ministry is doing a phenomenal job in Pollsmoor Prison working with the juvenile women prisoners. A couple of weeks ago, they did beading with the ladies and delivered the necklaces to their loved ones at home with a note from them. They also do bible studies and hand out Bible questionnaires to some of the inmates who want to learn more about God.

At present they are collecting Bibles and toiletries to hand out in Christmas gift bags for the women. If you have items to donate, please contact Yvonne on 074 155 7474 or the Ubomi office on 021 439 4721. The team would also appreciate prayer for the young ladies in prison and those who have recently been released.

"We hope that their prison sentence will be a time of transformation and rehabilitation for them and that all may come to know Jesus in a deeper more personal way then ever before".

DEA making the change
The DEA ran a 2 week program at Prestwich Primary School in Green Point. There was an enthusiastic crowd of teenagers at the school, eager to learn more about drug awareness. They had an excellent response and also learnt a couple of things from the teenagers!

The 2 week period included a presentation to the school assembly as well as running life orientation classes with smaller groups. These classes help equip the teenagers to make healthy decisions regarding drugs and alcohol. The DEA also shared their personal testimonies and gave some of the teenagers a chance to share their stories.

The DEA would like to thank Alex Marsh from THE 360 FILMING COMPANY www.360filming.com for doing the photography for the DEA website and the City of Cape Town for providing funding for the programme.

Food Tent donated to El-Shammah Kibbutz
El-Shammah Kibbutz was blessed with a Food Tent for their vegetable garden from Heart Social Investments for Life in Cape Town. This tunnel will be part of the Kibbutz's vegetable enclosure and will add to the productivity of the garden and to generate income for the project.

A Group of 10 volunteers from Heart Social Investments for Life arrived last month at the Kibbutz with all their materials to erect the tunnel. One of the main drug lords from the community, that is currently doing social work at the Kibbutz, gathered a team together to help the volunteers to get the job done. Within 2 hours the tunnel was erected and the seedlings planted.

El-Shammah Kibbutz would like to thank Heart Social investments for Life for the amazing blessing. Thank you to Dave and Karen Hollman from Life Church who recommended El-Shammah Kibbutz as a project for Heart Social Investments for Life.

Time of Giving
The end of the year is a time of giving - a time to be generous and bless people in need. Ubomi partners with a number of projects that would like to put a smile on someone's face by blessing them with a gift. If you would like to partner with Ubomi and give to a project, please contact us on info@ubomi.com or 021 439 4721.

One of the projects undertaken by Social Action is the collection and distribution of "Dignity Bags".

These are bags with toiletries that will be handed out to people living in poverty and on the streets in the community of Sea Point. If you would like to sponsor a Dignity Bag please contact Ps Desiree Liebenberg on 021 439 4721 or desireel@life-church.co.za
