OVER THE FENCE
Over the Fence Prison Ministry brings the good news of Jesus Christ to the inmates to enable them to receive life in the full through Jesus Christ. We disciple, teach, witness, pray, encourage the inmates through bible study and various programs to become productive and responsible members of society, move from brokenness to wholeness & help prepare them for leaving prison & adapt to community.

We follow through after they left prison until they become fully grown as believers of Jesus Christ and link them up with relevant networks and support groups.

Over The Fence prison ministry has been visiting the juvenile section in prison on Saturday mornings for a couple of years. The team have been making progress in building relationships with the ladies in prison by means of a mentorship programme i.e. each team member is allocated a mentoree or two to focus on and encourage, and to in keep contact with when the mentoree leaves prison.

They have been trying to make their sessions as interactive and relevant as possible. They treat the prisoners with great events like a gospel concert. They have also began openly discussing topics like HIV & Aids and focusing on drug education.

They try to cater for their physical needs too by taking in underwear, takkies, writing material, toiletries and clothing. Their aim is to maintain better contact with the them that are released from prison and to support them outside the prison as well as inside the prison.

Please continue to pray for breakthrough in the prisons and for God's love to become so real to these beautiful people." ...Yvonne Kiewiet

Over the Fence's aim is to:

  • Encourage the inmates with God's love, being personal with them, and providing them with opportunities to reach out to the Lord. We do this through a mentorship, encouragement, prayer and praise and worship.
  • To care for their spiritual and physical needs. We provide toiletries when possible and when allowed.
  • To teach the ladies life skills and creative arts which they may use outside prison.
  • To maintain contact as far as possible with the ladies after their prison sentence, and assist them in receiving the support and any rehabilitation they may need after their release in order that they can integrate successfully back into society. Our dream is to one day have a halfway house or a dream centre for the juveniles that are released and are not able to return to their homes.

VISION

  • To lead the young men and woman to Christ;
  • To help them to become productive & responsible members of society;
